November 17: Actual rest day in Pucón
It’s a proper day off, which means it’s laundry day. I'd actually had a look for laundry places yesterday, since I was back early. There's quite a few in town, but all of the ones that are open on Saturday were closed on Sunday … no use. But one was closed on Saturday and open on Sunday, which sounds great; except that when there’s only one place that’s being different it looks a bit dubious. But it's well reviewed and it's the best option there is so I went over to take a look.
They looked pretty good and were confident it'd be done by 4 so I asked to borrow their bathroom to get changed, and added my casual outfit. Slightly weird but I don't think it's the first time that's happened! I'm going to spend the day in a shirt and cycling outer shorts. I'm still decent, but may be refused entry to restaurants. Especially classy ones.
From left to right: small scissors with sauce packets is a great idea and more places should do it. Mapuche statue. Pucon selfie. This looks like an accidental concrete spill that was painted yellow, I’m so flummoxed I took a photo.
Next is a quick supermarket trip. Top of the list is tissues; I've had a bit of a cold for the last few days and wiping my nose with purloined napkins isn't really working. Especially when cycling in the rain, they can't stay dry. Also another water bottle, because my old one got crunched after being sealed at 2400m and then brought back down to sea level. It'd probably be OK but a replacement is 1 euro and I'm walking past them so I got one.
Also some breakfast. The hostel provides breakfast, for a small price. I tried it this morning and it took half an hour to arrive, and was not enough for a day’s cycling. So tomorrow I'm going to take care of it myself. The supermarket here in Pucón has everything I'm looking for, which is a bit nice: but also a sign that the place is less exotic. I think I'm happy with the less exotic option now.
From left to right: all my clothes; the patterned thing is my buf. Volcán Villarrica at sunset, I was hoping for a bit more color. The sunset.
That's pretty much it - it was an actual rest day. I started and finished a book. Walked around in the sun. Picked up the laundry.
And admired the sunset. The sunsets here in Pucón are so good people actually stop to watch it. Seriously.
