Feb 16: Week 2 wrapup

Exactly 10 weeks left before the ride starts!

Tuesday morning was Endurance class. I forgot to have a banana or any sort of breakfast first, so the class was more of a test of endurance.

Thursday morning was Endurance class again. I did have a pre-class banana, and it went much better.  Still finishing at the bottom of the leaderboard and I'm still dealing with it.  Spent some time practicing getting up on the pedals, it’s no problem when grinding slowly up a hill at low RPM but I'm having problems doing it efficiently at high RPM and apparently that’s a skill you need. So I’m working on it. I don’t believe I’ve seen a hill that was so steep that you needed get up off the seat, but so shallow it needs a high cadence. But if one crosses my path I intend to be prepared…

But one thing I don’t want to practice any more are the 7am classes; they mean a 6am alarm and I have no wish to get good at those.

After last weekend’s problems I took my old bike into the shop to get the back wheel fixed, but the first available time is the coming Saturday morning. So it probably won't be usable for the weekend ride.  I still haven't got the new bike ready - too many other distractions! - but this is probably going to force it to happen soon.

Week 2 summary: too little drama.  Too much talking about bananas.
